During the reading of The Outsiders,7th grade students were divided up and labeled Socials and Greasers. Students were treated differently that day in order to understand what it was like to be stereotyped based on social class. Teacher favored the Socials and assumed the worst about the Greasers.

Tacos and Crepes
Truman Middle School staff and modern language students enjoyed their annual 'Crepe Truck Day' on May 8. Authentic crepes were served in the flavors of cinnamon sugar, chocolate chip, banana and strawberry. The more savory crepe menu included ingredients like asparagus, goat cheese and bacon. This year, for the first time, we also welcomed the 'Taco Truck'. Mexican tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos and tortas were the offerings. As you can see, everyone had a delicious time!

7th Grade Science
Mr. Fee's 7th grade students used their knowledge of inertia, friction, and air resistance to improve the distance a toy car will roll down an incline. For the parachutes:
Mrs. Nussbaum's 7th grade students designed parachutes for toy army men, investigating how different variables affected air resistance and the time it took to fall.
Both 7th grade classes also had to create a container with certain requirements to hold an egg. The object was to create a container that would protect the egg from the force of impact of the fall. The containers were then dropped from a 2nd floor window, unwrapped and checked to see if the egg was still intact.
Welcome 5th Graders
Truman welcomed the 5th graders from the elementary schools that will be attending Truman next year. They were given a tour of the school, met the 6th grade teachers, talked to students from different clubs and were and had a chance to ask questions about what it will be like next school year.

Some of the images that were presented to the students were very disturbing. There were pictures of different cancer patients and the effects that tobacco can cause.
