Truman's First All School Assembly
Truman held its first all school assembly on December 16, 2011. The orchestra, choir and band entertained the staff and students with music they have been working on all year. Everyone enjoyed the assembly and was greeted by a special visitor at the end of the show.
7th Grade Experiment
Mr. Fee and Ms. Eckert's science classes took advantage of Truman's awesome science lab when they were trying to determine if hydrogen was flammable.
First they combined Zinc and Hydrochloric Acid. The reaction produced hydrogen gas which Mr. Fee captured in a balloon. They then tested if hydrogen was flammable with a lit match. It was. There was a loud explosion as soon as the balloon was puntured the slightest bit because all the hydrogen tried rushing out which caused a quick and loud ignition.

Minute to Win It~Library Style
Laura Polak with Youth Services from the Oak Bend branch of the St. Louis County Library visited the Truman Library on November 17th. She was promoting the Teen Advisory Group for the library and telling the kids what after school programs the county library has. We played "Minute To Win It", like the famous TV show. The county library provided prizes and refreshments as part of their outreach to public schools. The county library will return in the new year with their traveling Video Game Show.
The students had lots of fun playing the games. Check out the photos of the fun time had by all.

A Turkey, a Pilgram, an Indian and a Pumpkin
Student Council sponsored a canned food drive for the month of November. Kids brought cans and used them to vote for their favorite "team" of teachers. The "team" of teachers with the most canned food items then had to (or got to!) dress up in Thanksgiving themed costumes. Team 7 Gold brought over 1/4 of the total cans collected in the food drive, so they dressed out today.
Ms. Buckely was the turkey, Ms. Eckert was the indian, Ms. Kloster was a pumpkin, and Mrs. Kuehn was the pilgrim.
